The Arco floor lamp is one the most iconic lights ever made. Designed in 1962 by Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni to illuminate the dining table it was a design breakthough, providing overhead lighting without the need for a ceiling light fixture.
The lamp was inspired by the way street lighting was structured and is a convenient way to make the most use of space. Many of the lamps designed in the 1950s and 60s are still preferred today. The great thing about deciding on a retro lamp is that if you don’t particularly like the look of the traditional lamps from the era, you also have the more space-aged looking lamps that were inspired by the exuberance of the post-war optimism. New products such as glass with chrome and designs that were sleek and sophisticated combined to produce a very forward thinking look.
